Kalmia are evergreen shrubs that have simple, leathery leaves and clusters of bowl-shaped flowers in Spring or Summer. Kalmia latifolia is a medium-sized evergreen shrub with glossy dark green leaves. In late Spring and early Summer it bears large clusters of pale pink flowers that open from deep pink buds. ‘Pinwheel’ has glossy, wavy, dark green leaves which emerge bright green, and star-shaped, crimson to burgundy flowers with red marbling inside, and white edges. The flowers open from pink buds in early Summer.
